Marcos/del Potro Bow Out

Marcos and Juan Martin del Potro bowed out in the semi-finals of the If Stockholm Open on Friday, losing a closely fought encounter with top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Marcos and del Potro went up a double break 4-1 lead in the first set as Marcos flicked a forehand pass for a winner. Del Potro saved three break points in the following game to secure a 5-1 lead before Marcos served out the opener in the eighth game.

Bopanna and Qureshi hit back in the second set, though, breaking Marcos’ serve in the fourth and eighth games to level the match. In the deciding Match Tie-break, ‘The Indo-Pak Express’ converted their first match point after 68 minutes as del Potro was pushed back and netted a forehand.

“It was a nice week for me, played some matches,” said Marcos. “Today’s match was tough...the guys played really good. But it was a lot of fun playing with Juan.”

Marcos now has a week off before returning to action at the Swiss Indoors Basel, which begins on Monday 31 October.
