Marcos Triumphs In Geneva

Sunday, 02 November, 2014

Marcos captured his fourth ATP Challenger Tour crown of the season on Sunday as he battled to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Michal Przysiezny in the Geneva final.

Marcos fired 13 aces and converted four of his nine break point chances as he prevailed in one hour and 37 minutes. He improved to a 10-1 record in ATP Challenger Tour finals and has an 83-26 record overall.

“The key was my return,” assessed Marcos. “At the end of the third set, I was able to find some solutions on his serve. Michal has a very big serve. He is a very good player too. I was a little sick yesterday for my semi-final. Today, I was more punchy on the court. I am really happy to have won five matches in five days.

“I am happy to be back on track,” continued Marcos, who is projected to return to the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. “I was injured for a large part of the year. I’m starting to find again my tennis and my spirit. I will play two more Challengers this year. I hope to play at the same level and not be injured again.”

Marcos will look to keep his winning run going next week at the Internationaux de Tennis de Vendée in Mouilleron Le Captif, France. He is seeded seventh in the draw and will open his campaign against Switzerland’s Yann Marti.

Croatian starlet Borna Coric is the top seed in France, with Tobias Kamke and Ricardas Berankis also feature in a strong line-up.
