Marcos To Play Monday In Melbourne

Saturday, 17 January, 2015

Marcos will begin his Australian Open campaign on Monday at Melbourne Park when he faces Teymuraz Gabashvili in the first round.

Marcos will play the No. 64-ranked Gabashvili for the first time at Tour level as he makes his 11th main draw appearance at the Australian Open.

Of course, Melbourne Park is the scene of Marcos’ greatest moment in tennis, when he reached his first Grand Slam final there in 2006, finishing runner-up to Roger Federer. He also reached the fourth round there in 2005 and 2009.

The match is scheduled for second on Court 13, with play beginning at 11am local time. The winner advances to a second-round clash with either David Goffin or Michael Russell, with the likelihood of 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. Sixth seed Andy Murray and second seed Roger Federer are also in Marcos’ quarter of the draw.
