Marcos will play his first match in the second round at the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven not before 4:30pm local time this afternoon. Marcos will play Igor Andreev on Stadium court.
Marcos will face a potentially dangerous opponent in Igor Andreev at the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament today as he bids to continue his good US Open Series form. After beating Rafa Nadal, the top ranked men’s tennis player, at the Western and Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati last week, Marcos is seeded number 1 in New Haven this week and is therefore expected to progress to the third round today.

Despite having a singles ranking of 102, today’s opponent Andreev has been as high as number 18 in the past, and dispatched his first-round opponent- the experienced Arnaud Clement- with ease, winning 7-6(2) 6-3. Andreev is renowned for his powerful play, in particular on the forehand side. However, it has been a difficult year for the 27 year-old Russian, and if Marcos can continue his good form and get ahead early, he should be able to cruise through this encounter.

If Marcos is to win this afternoon, he will meet either Juan Ignacio Chela, the number 14 seed in New Haven, or Donald Young of the USA, who do battle on the Grandstand court this afternoon.

Nevertheless, Marcos needs to concentrate on defeating Andreev first, with the knowledge that his brilliant fan-base are all fully behind him as ever.

Go Marcos!
