Marcos will begin his Australian Open campaign against Denis Istomin after being placed in the bottom quarter of the 128-man draw.
The draw was made on Friday morning in Melbourne, where Marcos is due to his 10th appearance. He achieved his best result in 2006, when he reached his first Grand Slam final by beating three Top 10 players before finishing runner-up to Roger Federer.
Marcos won his past two meetings with Istomin, one at a Tashkent Challenger in 2009 and later in 2010 in the Moscow semi-finals. Should he prevail again against the Uzbekistani, he would face either Dmitry Tursunov or Michael Russell. He could face defending champion and second seed Novak Djokovic in the third round.
