Marcos Returns To South America

Tuesday, 21 July, 2015

Marcos will make his first trip to South America since 2004 when he hits the hard courts of the Claro Open Colombia this week in Bogota.

It will be Marcos' first ATP World Tour tournament on the continent, having previously contested three ATP Challenger Tour events in Brazil more than 10 years ago. He opens against qualifier Alejandro Gomez. The World No. 698 Gomez is making his ATP debut.

A potential quarter-final clash against second seed and defending champion Bernard Tomic looms large for Marcos, who is coming off Cyprus' Davis Cup Group III tie. Cyprus fell to Norway in the final round.

Marcos recently enjoyed a strong grass-court season, which saw him advance to the semi-finals in Nottingham and the third round at Wimbledon. He saw his position in the Emirates ATP Rankings rise inside the Top 50 for the first time since 2013.
