Marcos returns to the court this week at the BNP Paribas Open in picturesque Indian Wells, U.S.A., where he opens against rising star Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic. Should Marcos win, he will face top seed and three-time champion Novak Djokovic in a blockbuster second round showdown.
Making his eighth trip to Indian Wells, Marcos will look to replicate his great success from years past where he produced some of the best tennis of his career. One of the most prestigious events on the ATP World Tour, located in southern California, it is the site of Marcos' stunning victory over Roger Federer in 2010. Overall, he owns an 8-7 tournament record, with his best result having come on debut in reaching the quarter-finals in 2006.
Marcos will look to boost his current Emirates ATP Ranking of No. 61 with a strong week in the desert. He is 2-0 against Vesely, including a first round 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win in Delray Beach last year. First round play gets underway on Thursday.
