Marcos Ready To Go In NYC

Monday, 25 August, 2014

Marcos will start his US Open campaign against 14th seed Marin Cilic. The fourth and final Grand Slam championship of the year gets underway on Monday at Flushing Meadows in New York, with Marcos set to begin either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Marcos will bid to overturn a 1-4 record against Cilic, having not lost a match since the Wimbledon second round. Indeed, Marcos’ two ATP Challenger Tour titles in Vancouver and Aptos have seen him re-enter the Top 100 in the Emirates ATP Rankings at World No. 86.

World No. 16 Cilic comes into the US Open on the back of successive third-round showings in Toronto and Cincinnati. The 25 year old has twice before reached the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows, including on his last appearance in 2012 (l. to Murray).

Marcos posted his best US Open result last year, when he was beaten in the third round by Stan Wawrinka, who went on to win his first Grand Slam title five months later at the Australian Open. Marcos also played one of the most memorable matches of his career at Flushing Meadows, when he and Andre Agassi went toe-to-toe in a five-set thriller in the 2006 second round.
