Marcos Overcome In Geneva Debut

Tuesday, 19 May, 2015

Marcos turned in a valiant effort in his Geneva Open debut, but succumbed to Thomaz Bellucci 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 on Monday.

Marcos battled back from a 5-2 deficit in the first set, breaking Bellucci when the Brazilian served for the opener a game later, and proceeded to capture the ensuing tie-break 7-5. But, competing in his first tournament in one month, he would drop serve twice in the second set and once in the third, eventually falling in two hours and 16 minutes. He fired four aces and won 75 per cent first servce points.

The next tournament will be Roland Garros - the second Grand Slam of the year - as Marcos looks to boost his current position of No. 58 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. He has no points to defend in the French capital. Making his 10th appearance there, he owns an 8-9 win-loss record with his best result coming in 2007 (Round of 16).
