Marcos defeated Marco Chiudinelli for the second time in two weeks to advance to the second round of the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open on Tuesday in the Caja Magica. In an impressive performance, Marcos needed 85 minutes to beat the Swiss player 6-3, 6-4 with one break of serve in each set.

In a very testing second-round match, Marcos will face Spaniard David Ferrer on Wednesday. Ninth-seeded Ferrer leads their head-to-head series 2-1, but it was Marcos who prevailed in the pair’s most recent encounter, coming from two sets down to defeat the Spaniard in five sets in the second round of the Australian Open.
