Marcos in tough US Open draw

Marcos was handed a tough draw at the US Open in Flushing Meadows starting next week. Marcos is in the same quarter as world number 3 Novak Djokovic, who he is scheduled to meet in the fourth round, and Andy Roddick, who he will play in the quarter-finals if both players progress that far. However, before all of that, Marcos gets the final Slam of the year underway against Frenchman Arnaud Clement. Marcos has played Clement five times, and he has beaten him on four of those occasions.

If Marcos beats Clement, he will face either Eduardo Schwank of Argentina, or Robby Ginepri, who will have the home-crowd behind him, in the second round. Marcos is then likely to play in-form Mardy Fish in the third round before proposed ties with Djokovic and Roddick.

Even though Marcos is undoubtedly in the toughest section of the draw, with a liberal smattering of seeds, big names, and form players, he has shown in this US Open Series that he is capable of beating anyone, as proved in his victory over world number 1, Rafa Nadal, in Cincinnati. If Marcos continues his brilliant form then he is capable of going all the way in Flushing Meadows, and should not be intimidated by anyone he could meet.

If Marcos wins this week in New Haven and therefore the US Open Series, any prize money he wins at the US Open will be doubled. Current leader of the Series, Andy Murray, is not playing this week.

Marcos will need all his fans behind him, as always, and will try his hardest to be successful in ‘the city that never sleeps’.

Go Marcos!
