Marcos' Hot Streak Continues In Stockholm

Saturday, 24 October, 2015

Marcos is enjoying one of the best weeks of his 2015 campaign at the If Stockholm Open. His impressive run continued on Friday with a 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 victory over familiar foe Gilles Muller in the quarterfinals.

Marcos fired 10 aces and claimed three of six break chances, but the story of the match was his resilience, having let a 4-2 second set lead slip away, before rallying for the victory in three. He improved to 2-0 against Muller, having previously prevailed in the Atlanta semifinals this summer.

"I know Gilles very well," said Marcos. "We shared rooms when we were in juniors. It's tough playing against a friend but I'm happy I won and found a way. I'm happy I have a chance to play a Top 10 player tomorrow. I will see what I want to improve."

Marcos is in the midst of a strong week in Stockholm, following straight-set victories over Sam Querrey and fourth seed Bernard Tomic. Against Muller, he claimed his 10th win in a deciding set this year, advancing to his fourth ATP World Tour semi-final of the season.

The 2009 champion, Marcos will look to return to the final when he battles top seed and defending champ Tomas Berdych on Saturday. It will be their sixth head-to-head meeting and first since 2012. Berdych owns a 3-2 edge, with Marcos' wins coming on the hard courts of Indian Wells in 2006 and Cincinnati in 2010.
