Marcos Edged By Cuevas In Nottingham

Friday, 24 June, 2016

Marcos grinded to the end, but was evenutally clipped by second seed Pablo Cuevas 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(8) in the quarterfinals of the Aegon Open Nottingham.

Marcos registered another strong week on the grass following his quarterfinal run at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle. Boasting a 15-12 record this year, he will enter Wimbledon at No. 40 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

On Thursday, Marcos fought for more than two and a half hours, rebounding to force a decider after dropping the first set. A day after saving two match points in beating Sam Querrey, he would save four in the third set tiebrak against Cuevas, before evenutally succumbing 10-8. One of Marcos' biggest weapons - his great agility - was on full display while trailing 6-5, tracking down a drop shot and flicking a stunning winner down the line.

Marcos, who had reached the semifinals in Nottingham last year, following his title run at the ATP Challenger Tour event in the city in 2014, will now turn his attention to the All England Club for the Wimbledon Championships. The draw will be made on Friday, with play commencing on Monday.
